Land Acknowledgement

The offices of Hashtag Hope are located on the Haldimand Tract, land that was granted to the Haudenosaunee of the Six Nations of the Grand River on October 25, 1784, and are within the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Neutral peoples. The Haldimand Tract extends 6 miles from the Grand River, on both sides, for the entire length of the river. Our offices are located in Block 2, which was shared by agreement with settlers in 1796. We acknowledge that the Crown, the Region of Waterloo, and the City of Cambridge have poorly honoured their obligations laid out in this agreement.

We acknowledge the enduring presence of the Indigenous people with whom we share this land today, their achievements and their contributions to our community.

We also acknowledge and repent of the role that our governments and churches have played in the oppression of Canada’s Indigenous peoples, through the Doctrine of Discovery, residential schools, and the violation of treaties.

We offer this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation between Indigenous and non- Indigenous peoples of Canada.
